Photo Log 32: Winged Scientists

Our question: Does the alka seltzer tablet form the bubbles in a lava lamp?

 Step 1: Pour 125 mls of the oil into each big bottle.

 Step 2: Then add 300 mls of water into each bottle.
The oil should float like this.

 Step 3: Add three drops of different food colouring; like red, blue or green into separate bottles.

 Step 4: Put 2 teaspoons of salt, into the funnel which is on top of the pink bottle.
Put 2 tablets of alka seltzer into the green bottle.
Put 2 tablets of nurofen into the blue bottle.

 Our observations:

 When we added 2 tsp of salt to our lava lamp we observed bubbles forming slowly in the water.

  When we added 2 alka-seltza tablets to our lava lamp we observed bubbles forming quickly in the water.

 When we added 2 nurofen tablets to our lava lamp we observed that there were no bubbles :)
